Tanah Merah MRT station (EW4) stands across New Upper Changi Road from Bedok Rise Residences, about 110 metres from the site. It is one of the most useful stations in the east, and the Land Transport Authority's plans are set to widen its reach further.
Tanah Merah is where the East-West Line divides. Main-line trains continue east to Simei, Tampines and Pasir Ris, and west through Bedok, Paya Lebar and Bugis to City Hall and Raffles Place, ten stops away. The Changi Airport branch leaves from the same station, with Expo one stop along and Changi Airport two.
Expo is the Downtown Line interchange, so a single change there puts the Downtown Line corridor through Tampines, Bedok North, MacPherson, Bugis and the Marina Bay financial district within reach. The bus stop at Tanah Merah station Exit A is about 70 metres from the site, with services along New Upper Changi Road towards Bedok and Changi.
In its announcement of 25 July 2025, the Land Transport Authority set out a 14-kilometre extension of the Thomson-East Coast Line to Changi Airport, together with a new Changi Terminal 5 interchange station on the Thomson-East Coast and Cross Island lines. As part of the plan, the three existing stations from Tanah Merah to Changi Airport undergo systems integration works to convert them into Thomson-East Coast Line stations.
Preparatory works to modify Tanah Merah into an interchange between the East-West and Thomson-East Coast lines have been under way since 2016, and LTA scheduled the station modification works for completion by the end of 2025. Once the conversion is complete, the station across the road from Bedok Rise Residences serves two lines. The East-West Line continues to carry the direct run into the city, while the Thomson-East Coast Line connects Tanah Merah by rail with Changi Airport and the new Terminal 5, and through Terminal 5 with the wider Thomson-East Coast and Cross Island networks.
For households who work at the airport, in the aviation and logistics cluster around Changi, or at Changi Business Park, that is a second rail option from the same front door. For anyone else, it is a station whose connections are growing rather than standing still, a quality that tends to serve a home well over the length of a 99-year lease.
